Sarajevo
Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, lies in the centre of the country, surrounded by the Dinaric Alps. Home to around 275 thousand people, it borders East Sarajevo. The city was founded in 1462 by the Ottoman Turks and is known as the site of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914. It also hosted the 1984 Winter Olympic Games. Average temperatures reach 18-25°C in summer and -1 to 5°C in winter. The best time for sightseeing is spring and autumn, when the weather is mild.
